The paddler sits on the bottom of the boat, or a cushion of some sort. I might do something about that later. There is, however, a back rest. One needs something to brace against paddling effort.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bob-easton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/backrest-shaping.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-655\" title=\"backrest shaping\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bob-easton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/backrest-shaping-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"backrest shaping\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bob-easton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/backrest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-656\" title=\"backrest\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bob-easton.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/backrest-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"backrest\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The backrest is pretty simple, an 8-sided, tapered bar with a couple of curved pads. All parts are white ash. The pads were curved by boiling for a few minutes and then clamping over nicely curved surfaces, which just happened to be chair backs. The backrest rotates to provide a comfortable fit.<\/p>\n<p>No mishaps with this component, except for losing one of the mounting screws.
